RAWALPINDI. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said the Constitution was being amended to extend the terms of three umpires.
Speaking to the media at the Adiala jail, Imran claimed the government, despite losing previous political battles, is now resorting to these amendments to safeguard fraudulent election results and protect officials in power.
He criticised the delay in addressing the May 9 events, accusing the government of trying to dismantle his party. He claimed he had been targeted with over 140 legal cases before May 9, adding that attempts to remove him only intensified after May 9.
Imran said if the new chief justice takes office, the true events of May 9 would come to light.
When a journalist asked how he saw Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s role, the PTI founder replied that he could not say anything. “All political forces have to unite for democracy. If Maulana is standing with democracy, it is a good thing.”
He said that three chief justices made the Humoodur Rahman Commission Report. “The report says that Yahya Khan killed democracy to save his power. Now the rule of law is being eroded.” Imran said people have hopes only from the Supreme Court, and that too is being destroyed. “No one has faith in the subordinate judiciary and police. In order to stop PTI’s meeting in Lahore, a round-up has been started. Whatever happens, the PTI would hold the rally in Lahore.”
Meanwhile, the Special Accountability Court in the federal capital adjourned the hearing of the Al-Qadir Trust reference based on the 190-million pound financial scandal against former prime minister Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi due to absence of defence lawyers.
