HARIPUR: Two children died after drinking powdered milk of a known brand, police officials said on Wednesday.

Officials of the Sera-e-Saleh Police Station quoted Ghulam Ali of Muhallah Rehmatabad as saying that his wife fed his 30 months old daughter, Azra Bibi, the powdered milk of a multinational brand on Tuesday evening.

But her condition deteriorated after a few minutes and he shifted her to the Trauma

centre but she could not survive. He told the police that at the same moment one of his paternal nephews, namely Muhammad Ali, also 7 months old, was fed by his mother the same milk from the same sachet and the infant’s condition also worsened.

The complainant said that the infant was also rushed to the Trauma centre but doctors pronounced him as brought dead.Accusing the shopkeeper and the company of selling expired milk, the complainant said that he bought the powdered milk of the known brand from a local shop, which became the cause of death of his minor daughter and a nephew.

On his complaint the police confiscated the stock of the powdered milk from the shop, and started an inquiry under section 174 of the CrPc.Meanwhile, the doctors said that the material from the stomachs of children was collected for forensic analysis to prove the exact cause of the death.
