PESHAWAR: Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) has condemned the reported forceful entry and ransacking of the offices of the director administration of University of Peshawar by some miscreants a couple of days ago.
The individuals occupied the office for several hours, causing chaos and damage, while the campus police failed to respond in a timely and effective manner, said the FAPUASA in a statement issued here on Sunday.
The statement said that the federation fully supported the strike called by the Joint Action Council of the University of Peshawar following the incident. “The universities are meant to be sanctuaries of peace and learning, and it is the responsibility of the campus police to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff. The failure to respond to this attack has raised serious concerns about the overall security of the university,” the statement added.
The federation termed this incident as an act of heinous crime and called for immediate intervention by both provincial and federal governments to find a permanent solution to the escalating security issues on university campuses.
FAPUASA demanded the chancellor, chief minister, and chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take notice of the alleged negligence by the inspector general of police. “It is imperative that the leadership meets with the JAC and addresses their legitimate demands. A judicial inquiry must be conducted on an urgent basis, and the culprits, whose violent intentions were clearly documented in viral videos, must be brought to justice,” it added.
