Karachi: Pakistani snooker players Asjad Iqbal and Awais Muneer marked an impressive start at the Snooker World Cup in Mongolia, winning their opening day matches without losing a single frame.
Asjad Iqbal, one of Pakistan’s top snooker players, began his campaign by facing Mongolia’s Baatarkhuu Narankhuu. In a match that showcased his skill and composure, Asjad won convincingly with a 3-0 scoreline. He took the first frame 71-38, followed by a tighter second frame 71-51, where he also played a break of 52 and then sealed the match with a commanding 110-32 in the final frame, chalking out another fifty plus break.
Asjad carried his momentum into his second match, where he faced Japan’s Junji Miyazawa. Once again, Asjad was in complete control, dispatching his opponent in straight frames 3-0. The scores for the match were 68-18, 63-11, and 83-01, with Asjad barely giving his opponent a chance to respond. His commanding lead in both matches underscores his confidence and form as he moves deeper into the tournament.
Awais Muneer, another promising talent from Pakistan, mirrored Asjad’s success with two straight victories. In his first match, Awais faced Mongolia’s Khash-Ochir Tuvshinjargal, whom he defeated 3-0 in a clinical display of cue control. Awais won the frames 60-17, 62-12, and 81-09, asserting his dominance right from the start.
Awais followed this up with an equally emphatic performance against Oman’s Husain Allawati, winning 3-0 without dropping a frame. The scoreline reflected his superior play, with frames of 68-06, 101(75)-12, and 83-15. Awais’ break of 75 in the second frame stood out as one of the highest breaks of the day.
