ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia are set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing agricultural cooperation, enhancing productivity and modernizing fertilizer production in Pakistan.

The agreement, reached during a meeting between Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khuriev, is designed to bolster the local agriculture sector and improve the output of agricultural products.

Russia will also provide technical assistance to modernize Pakistan’s fertilizer manufacturing plants, addressing local agricultural input needs.

The discussions, held at the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, focused on strengthening bilateral relations in the industrial and agricultural sectors. Ambassador Khuriev emphasized the importance of promoting trade and investment between the two nations.

Minister Hussain expressed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening ties with Russia, highlighting the country’s readiness to support Russian investors and advance trade and investment relations. He noted the crucial role of modern agricultural machinery and inputs in boosting productivity across major and minor crops, as well as livestock.

As part of the initiative, Russia will supply modern agricultural machinery to Pakistan and invite Pakistani agricultural experts to Russia. This exchange aims to improve per-acre crop yields and foster knowledge-sharing between Pakistani and Russian agri-scientists.
