The bodies of a woman and two girls were found in an underground water tank in Landhi’s Bakhtawar Goth area on Thursday, according to the Sukhan police.
A woman, who was allegedly ill, threw her three minor daughters into the tank before jumping in herself. Police said that one of the girls managed to get out of the tank, adding that the survivor said their mother had thrown the girls in the tank before as well.
On receiving information of the incident, police and welfare organisation volunteers arrived on the scene to find the neighbourhood crowded with people. They took out the bodies and took them to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Samina, 10, said their mother had thrown her and her two sisters one by one on the pretext of showing them fish inside the tank before jumping in herself. According to their relatives, the woman named Shehla had been mentally ill and undergoing treatment.
Police said the residents of the neighbourhood also claimed that the woman’s mental health had not been well, adding that she had thrown her daughters in the tank before as well.
