Pak athletes continue to struggle at athletics event in Chennai
KARACHI: Pakistan’s performance at the 4th South Asian Junior Athletics Championship in Chennai showed no signs of improvement on the second day of the event.
On Thursday, Pakistani athletes in the 400 metres race struggled to make an impact. Muhammad Farhan and Anis Khan finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Farhan clocked 51.51 seconds, while Khan recorded 51.56 seconds. Both runners trailed significantly behind the winner, India’s Jay Kumar, who secured the gold. He had a lead of over four seconds over Pakistani athletes.
Farhan and Khan lagged behind Kumar by 4.65 and 4.7 seconds, respectively. The trend of underperformance began on Wednesday, the opening day of the championship. Ammar and Hussain failed to advance beyond the heats in the 100 meters, and Aiza Ahmed could not clear the opening height in the women’s high jump. Additionally, Shahid finished last in the 800 metres.
