ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has notified PPPP’s Muhammad Asif as the returned candidate from PS-112, Keamari-II, having secured 11,724 votes, while the number of invalid votes exceeded half of his total votes in the recount.
Independent candidate Sirbuland Khan, who enjoyed the support of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, had originally won the February 8 general elections with 16,287 votes, while Muhammad Asif managed to secure 10,784 votes. However, in the recount, the PPPP candidate’s closest rival received 9,943 votes, and Muhammad Asif was declared to have received 11,724 votes, with 6,018 votes being declared invalid. In total, 35 candidates had contested this constituency in the general elections, and 50,642 votes were polled. Muhammad Faisal, however, managed to secure only five votes. Separately, under the order of the Quetta election tribunal, dated 21st August 2024, in election petition No. 3/2024, the election commission has directed that a re-poll in seven polling stations of PB-36 Kalat be held on September 23, 2024.
