SUKKUR: A polio worker was allegedly abducted and raped in Jacobabad on Wednesday.
The incident took place in village Allah Bakhsh Jakrani within the limits of Mouladad police station. The victim was taken to the Jacobabad Institute of Medical Science (JIMS) Hospital for medical examination.
Jacobabad Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Ahmed Marri and SSP Sumair Noor Channa said the suspects took the polio worker to an empty house in the pretext of administering polio drops to children.
The SSP further said the medical examination report will confirm if the polio worker was sexually assaulted, adding that the raids were being carried out to arrest the suspects involved in the incident.
Jacobabad Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Ahmed Marri, SSP Sumair Noor Channa and District Health Officer Dr Irshad Serki visited the victim at the JIMS hospital and got details of the incident.
Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Ahmed Marri, talking to the local journalists, said the geo-fencing of the crime scene had been done, adding that police recovered the victim and her co-worker from an empty house, while the alleged suspects had fled the scene.
Till the filling of this report, no case of the incident was registered, while the polio team in Jacobabad refused to perform duties, demanding strict against the culprits.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, taking notice of the incident, sought details from the Larkana DIG and Divisional Commissioner and directed them to ensure arrest of the culprits without any delay.
