ISLAMABAD: The Senate Committee on Housing and Works on Tuesday reviewed the Islamabad police’s illegal occupation of G-6/1 flats and the panel head demanded that police should vacate these residences, citing a Supreme Court ruling mandating the end of such occupations.
The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works was held at the Parliament House under its Chairman Senator Nasir Mehmood.
Mehmood inquired about the police’s reasons for occupying government houses, to which the IG police responded that 114 police officers were residing in those flats.
The IGP stated that there are over 12,000 police personnel, with 314 flats being allotted to the police. The IGP argued that there was no Supreme Court decision specifically addressing the issue and suggested forming a committee to resolve it.
The panel chairman countered that the Supreme Court had ruled on this matter in 2018, and six years had elapsed, with only 114 houses currently disputed. He directed the interior ministry secretary to address the issue within six months as both the CDA and police fall under the ministry.
