DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Vice-Chancellor of the Gomal University, Agricultural University Dera Ismail Khan and Lakki Marwat University, Prof Dr Shakibullah Khan on Tuesday nominated the owners of a private veterinary college of Lahore for the attack on him the previous night.
He told the Gomal University Police Station officials that he was on his way to his home from the Agricultural University along with driver Jamshed and gunman Constable Umar Farooq after performing official duty when two unknown armed men opened fire on their vehicle near the gate. However, he said they remained safe but the vehicle got damaged in the firing.
The complainant said that Gomal University’s Registrar, Zahir Shah, and the personal assistant to vice-chancellor, Abid Khan, were witnesses to the incident as they were following them in their vehicles.
Dr Shakibullah added that he was a government-appointed member of the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council and served as its vice president.He said some time ago, he inspected the Riphah College of Veterinary Sciences (RCVetS) in Lahore and pinpointed shortcomings in it due to which the college registration was cancelled.
“Following cancellation of the college registration, the owners namely Arshad and Muhammad Akram annoyed with me and started sending me threats of dire consequences via Whatsapp,” he said, adding that the mentioned two persons had conspired to eliminate him.
It may be mentioned that two gunmen had opened fire on the vehicle of Prof Dr Shakibullah at the gate of Agricultural University the previous night. However, the VC, driver and gunman remained unharmed in the attack.
