LAHORE:Two labourers died and eight others were injured when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed in Phase 7 Defence, on Tuesday. Rescuers arrived at the scene and pulled out two bodies and eight survivors from the debris.
The injured labourers were transported to hospital. The deceased were identified as Afzal, 35, and Naeem, 25, from Kamahan, Lahore. The injured included Bhola, 35, Akram, 30, and Asif, 40, among others.
11,636 criminals held in eight months
Punjab Police have busted 4,646 gangs involved in serious crimes and arrested 11,636 criminals in eight months. The police recovered stolen articles worth Rs7.61 billion from criminals and returned the items to genuine owners.
The stolen articles include 1,303 vehicles, 19,431 motorcycles, 1,957 tola gold, 7,978 mobile phones, and 3,241 livestock. According to police spokesperson, more than Rs4.79 billion was also recovered from criminals. The spokesperson said The Lahore Police busted 2,628 gangs and arrested 6,033 accused and recovered more than Rs4.31 billion worth stolen property from the criminals.
Rape suspect arrested
SSOIU Cantt has arrested a man accused of raping a woman while pretending to marry her. The victim, a 24-year-old divorced woman, had previously filed a rape complaint at Baghbanpura police station. According to police, the accused, Tayyab, is a friend of the victim's ex-husband. He allegedly exploited this connection to repeatedly rape the victim on the pretext of marrying her.
PO held at airport
Punjab Police Special Operations Cell Tuesday arrested a fugitive who came from Saudi Arabia after six years. Ghulam Abbas was wanted by Gujranwala police since 2018 in a case involving the kidnapping of a woman and attempted murder.
The Special Operations Cell contacted Interpol for the fugitive and with close coordination with Saudi police, the accused was arrested from airport.
