Easy method of collecting tax stressed

OKARA: Punjab Excise and Taxation Department collectors are accused of deliberately giving last two or three days of a month to the taxpayers to pay the tax before the end of the month or pay the fine if they fail to deposit the tax on due date.

Talking to The News, citizens Ali Raza, Sarfraz and Khurram Shahzad have alleged that the fine on tax amount unreasonable. They said Excise and Taxation Department must evolve a system to collect tax monthly, which would be easy to pay for public. Paying tax is the first and foremost responsibility of people, but the department should not adopt severe methods of collecting tax.

CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS CREATE HATRED AMONG PEOPLE: Corruption allegations against the rulers have increased hatred among people. The prime minister should come clean in the eyes of people by clarifying his position in the wake of Panama Leaks. It was stated by former federal minister and PPP Punjab president Mian Manzoor Wattoo while talking to journalists. He said doors could never be closed on political leaders’ mutual meetings and nobody could raise objection to any meeting between PM Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari. In this situation the party may suffer loss, if Nawaz-Zardari meeting takes place, he said.

DEATH AWARDED IN MURDER CASE: An anti-terrorism court awarded death sentence to the killer of a constable and his six accomplices were awarded three years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine. About three years ago, a constable, Muhammad Ahmad, went on duty with a Wapda checking team to village 38/D where convict, Bhai Khan, son of Sajwar, and his accomplices assaulted the team and the constable Muhammad Ahmad was murdered. A case was registered by Sadr Depalpur police against 28 people and 26 of them granted bail in the case. The court awarded death sentence to Bhai Khan, three years RI and fine to each of six accomplices including Sadi Ahmad, Mistry Nazeer, Akram, Iftikhar, Abrar Hussan and Ikram.
