Safe City Project has started in Multan: RPO

MULTAN: The Punjab Safe City Project has begun and CCTV cameras will be installed on all roads and streets to apprehend the criminals within no time.
‘Thana culture’ is going to change through the new mindset of police official. Dolphin Force is going to be launched for patrolling in the sensitive areas, educational institutions and shopping centres.
Multan Regional Police Officer Sultan Azam Taimoori expressed these views while addressing Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Executive Committee members during a ceremony here on Wednesday.
MCCI President Fareed Mugis Sheikh chaired the ceremony.
RPO Sultan Azam Taimuri said that honest, dedicated and impartial officers were encouraged and there would be zero tolerance for inefficient, corrupt and the cops with bad reputation.
He claimed that police were free from political influence in Multan.He assured that Dispute Resolution Committees (DRC) would be formed at the RPO and CPO level, and due representation would be given to MCCI.
The RPO said that helpline phones were being installed at all police stations so that public could lodge complaints in case of any emergency.
He said the police rescue service 15 and additional police stations were being upgraded as model ones where everyone could register their complaint through fax, e-mail and phone and these complaints would be uploaded in the system automatically and reach the regional police officer, City police officer, SDPO and SHOs concerned.
The complainant would be informed about the status of his complaint through SMS.
The RPO said that now performance of the police officers would be judged on the basis of resolution of cases and apprehension of culprits.
The RPO said that Multan Range Police had held a number of meetings with the Multan commissioner to resolve the traffic problems in the city and to remove unauthorised parking.
He stressed the need for properly educating drivers so that they could abide by traffic rules.
He said illegal encroachments would be removed for the smooth flow of traffic in the old city of Multan. He stressed the need for changing the Police Act 1861, which was introduced by the British rulers to deal with the slaves.
In his address, MCCI President Fareed Mughis Sheikh stressed the need for introducing Dophin Force in Multan, modern policing, upgrade of police stations and formation of the citizen liaison police committees (CLPCs).
Ex-Minister Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, Mian Mughis A Sheikh, Mian Iqbal Hassan,Shahid Nasim Khokhar, Khawaja Muhammad Yousaf, Mian Tanvir A Sheikh, Syed Tahir Naqi and Atta Shafi Tanvir also spoke.
NAB ORDERRS CRACKDOWN ON POWER DEFAULTERS: Regional National Accountability Bureau has ordered massive crackdown on electricity defaulters in Rahimyar Khan and Bahawalnagar and ordered disconnection of electricity supply to the defaulters.
The decision was taken at a NAB Multan Region meeting chaired by Regional Director General Brig Farooq Naseer Awan (rtd) on Wednesday.
He directed the NAB investigators to ensure disconnection of electricity connections of all defaulters. He asked the officials to identify and provide details of electricity defaulters and properties. He also directed the officials to correct wrong and inflated bills. He also said that any MEPCO official found involved in malpractices would be taken to task.
Earlier, Rahimyar Khan Mepco SE Wakeel Nadir briefed the NAB officers on defaulters and said they had recovered Rs 7.76 million from 41 defaulters, whereas 87 out of 92 untraced defaulters had been traced through field surveys.
Bahawalnagar Mepco SE Syed Jawad Mansoor briefed the NAB officers that Bahawalnagar circle had recovered Rs 0.559 million from 41 defaulters and all of them had been traced through field surveys.
