The husband of a woman was detained by police on Monday after her body bearing signs of torture was found in a house in Landhi’s Sherpao Colony.
The deceased woman was the mother of two children and hailed from Swabi. Police said they had initiated investigations into her death. The woman’s body with torture marks was found from a house within the jurisdiction of the Quaidabad police station.
Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the location and shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the deceased was identified as 24-year-old Fatima, wife of Noman. Police said there were visible injuries on the victim's face and neck, and the marks on her neck suggested that she may have been strangled.
Police immediately detained the husband and took him to the police station for interrogation. In his statement to the police, Noman claimed that he had divorced his wife, and a dispute arose on Sunday over unpaid dowry of two tolas of gold. He alleged that this argument led his wife to commit suicide.
Police said the woman's husband worked in a factory and the body had been sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of her death. Further investigations are under way.
