An African lioness being housed at the Karachi Zoo has given birth to three cubs, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) announced through a press statement on Monday. The arrival of these new members is expected to enhance the zoo’s appeal.
According to zoo officials, all three cubs and their mother are healthy and are currently housed in a special enclosure for their protection. After eight weeks the cubs will be moved to regular enclosures, where visitors will be able to see them up close.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab reaffirmed his commitment to further improving the zoo, including the addition of new animals and the enhancement of recreational facilities. Modern features such as a fun land and an electric train have recently been introduced at the zoo, and the historical Mughal Garden has been renovated. The mayor said that efforts are under way to provide recreational facilities for people of all ages, so the entire family can enjoy their visit.
Additionally, special facilities will be made available for researchers and students studying animals and birds, allowing them to conduct observations and experiments more effectively. The mayor instructed Recreation Senior Director Iqbal Nawaz to ensure the well-being of the lion cubs by personally overseeing their health and diet.
