Islamabad:Khadim Hussain Soomro, chairperson, Sindh Sufi Institute, has said that GM Sayed lived his life in a unique mystic manner and authored more than 60 books on subjects ranging from politics, religion and culture to literature.
Soomro was speaking at the launch of ‘Love and GM Sayed’ by Dr Nasir Jamal Pathan which is English translation of Soomro’s Urdu translation ‘GM Sayed and Dastan e Muhabbat’ here at The Black Hole. The two are translations of GM Syed’s Sindhi work ‘Dayar-e-Dil aiyn Dastan-e- Muhabbat.’ Dr Manzoor Ali Veesrio of Quaid-i-Azam University was the moderator.
Soomro said that GM Sayed also wrote master pieces on the poetic message of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai called ‘Paigham-e-Latif.’ He said that Sayed’s life was a life of almost unparalleled historical importance. His father was killed during his childhood and the Sayed was sole male member of his family. He could not get formal education but he was tutored at home and got a mastery over different languages. He realised the purpose and value of education and opened windows of opportunity in education for the people when he became Minister of Education in Sindh in 1941, Soomro elucidated.
Explaining different types of love, Soomro also spoke about GM Sayed’s journey from Ishq-e-Majazi to Ishq-e-Haqiqi and his never-failing love for humanity and motherland. Speaking about the message of Sindh and Sayed, Mr Soomro said, it was his burning desire to translate the masterpiece of GM Sayed first into Urdu and then into English and thanked Dr Jamal from Toronto, Canada, for the English translation.
He said that this book is an image of Syed’s global philosophy about love. All intellectual material in the book, he said, belongs to Sayed and he is only a presenter of his noble work. Human rights activist, journalist and columnist Gulshan Laghari said that Mr Sayed was indeed a true lover of humanity, but unfortunately like many other true lovers and iconic figures in the human history, he was misunderstood and misinterpreted. Mr Sayed was a teacher, scholar, writer, friend of people, educationist and a true Sufi. His works are constantly reprinted and eagerly studied throughout the country and abroad nowadays.
She said the book devolves deep into the insightful perspectives of Sayed. A true Sufi is a true lover who loves humanity in all situations and circumstances. We must debate and discuss the intellectual works of great theologists, thinkers, true lovers of humanity who played a momentous role in the creation of this country. She thanked the management of the Black Hole for this launching ceremony.
Hashim Abro of Pakistan Intellectual Forum (PIF) called it a lovely layout. He said the translation in English really mesmerises readers. He said the author’s note in itself is full of love, wisdom and wisdom of love.
