KARACHI: Sindh Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori praised Pakistan’s rice export trade, noting the impressive $4 billion mark achieved in FY 2023-24 while presiding over the 16th Export Awards Ceremony of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) at the Governor’s House.
During the ceremony, Governor Tessori commended rice exporters for their significant contributions to the economy. He also recommended Abdul Rahim Janoo for the prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz, acknowledging his outstanding social welfare services, including organizing free eye camps for the underprivileged for the past 36 years.
Abdul Rahim Janoo, convener of the REAP Export Awards Committee, and Chela Ram Kewlani, chairman of REAP, also addressed the audience. They highlighted various ongoing issues facing the rice export sector, with Janoo specifically requesting the reopening of the association’s office, which has been sealed for over nine years.
Governor Tessori expressed his satisfaction with the $4 billion milestone in rice exports and assured his full support in resolving the sector’s outstanding issues.He announced the establishment of a rice cell at the Governor’s House to further support rice exporters and extended his congratulations to all award recipients.
The governor distributed export awards to leading and prominent rice exporters and presented gold medals for special contributions to the sector. The ceremony was attended by current and former office bearers of the association, managing committee members, REAP members from across Pakistan, consuls general of various countries, and prominent members of the business community.
