PARACHINAR: A fresh skirmish broke out between the Afghan Taliban fighters and Pakistani security forces along the Pak-Afghan border in the Kurram district on Sunday.

Local officials said that both sides used “heavy weapons” during the clash, which occurred near the Zazai Maidan area in Afghanistan’s Khost province.

Officials said the confrontation began when the Taliban attempted to set up a checkpoint near the border. Both light and heavy weaponry were employed by both sides during the exchange of fire. There are no confirmed reports on the extent of casualties or damage, and no official statements have been issued regarding the incident. However, videos circulating on social media showed heavy gunfire in the area with reports suggesting that several people were killed or injured on the Afghan side. This latest skirmish follows a similar confrontation between the two sides last week. Clashes between Afghan Taliban and Pakistani forces have occurred frequently along the Durand Line in recent years, often resulting in casualties on both sides.
