Passenger held with Rs1.8m jewellery, injections at airport
Personnel of the Pakistan Customs posted at the Karachi airport’s International Arrival arrested a passenger over alleged involvement in the smuggling of banned items and medicines worth millions of rupees.
Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for the customs, said customs staff, acting on suspicion, diverted a passenger to the scanning machine for the scanning of luggage and a body-search on the basis of profiling.
A passenger named Abdul Rauf Sangi is a commercial carrier, and wa coming from Turkey via Doha flight QR 604. Upon search, 595 tolas of silver jewellery was recovered, which was tactfully concealed. Furthermore, Prolia 60mg/ml injections reported to be used for cancer patients were also seized.
The spokesman added that the total tentative value of seized jewellery and injections is estimated to be around Rs1,800,000. An FIR is being lodged to arrest other facilitators, abettors, and financers in order to bust the syndicate behind the smuggling.
