ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the forthcoming Test series against England will be played in Rawalpindi and Multan with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) having given the go-ahead to the selected venues.

The PCB chairman was talking to the media in Lahore on Saturday. “The ECB has given the go-ahead to hold the series in Multan and Rawalpindi. There should not be any doubt about that.”

Naqvi’s fresh statement has given rest to rumors that say that the series could well be shifted to the UAE.

The chairman also announced that the captain’s name for the Test series against England will be announced in consultation with coaches, mentors and the selection committee.

Naqvi also announced building the Dubai Cricket Stadium like Cricket Stadium in Islamabad after the Champions Trophy. “The report about Pindi Stadium is not encouraging as such minimum changes will be made at the venue for the Champions Trophy to make these more spectators friendly without taking any risk of putting a heavy load on the weak structure.”

On the upgradation of Gaddafi Stadium, he said that the basement work would be finalised by September end. “Barring the last far pavilion, the whole Gaddafi Stadium will be given a new look.”

The PCB also plans to construct a hotel adjacent to the Gaddafi Stadium. “We have already purchased the land and the building adjacent to the Stadium. The hotel construction work will be initiated after the Champions Trophy. An internationally recognised company will build the hotel in accordance with the international standards.”

On Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Stadium, Naqvi said that the venue will be ready well before the Champions Trophy.

The PCB Chairman reiterated that the Champions Trophy will be organised in Pakistan as per the finalised schedule.

“We are in touch with all participating nations including India. I am even in touch with Jay Shah. His becoming Chairman ICC has never been a matter of concern for the PCB.”
