ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has extended the period for the export of sugar by 15 days.
According to government sources, the period for sugar export has been increased from 45 days to 60 days. The export of one and a half lakh tonnes of sugar was previously allowed. Sugar mills will be able to export unutilised quota for an extended period. The extension will not apply to mills not paying sugarcane farmers. The terms of retail and ex-mill prices of sugar for export will remain unchanged. The Cabinet Committee for Monitoring Sugar Export has been directed to monitor the prices.
