CHITRAL: A group of children recently reached the basecamp of Terich Mir, which is known as Babu Camp.The children who went on the expedition included Anobiya Irfan, 9, Anush Alam, 13, Anum Khadim, 13 and Raheel Danial, 16.
Speaking at a press conference at the Chitral Press Club, the children said their expedition would help promote mountaineering and adventure tourism among the youth of Chitral. They said that they completed the adventure in seven days during which they stayed close to nature and observed its marvels.
Their trainer Sahib Alam said the adventure was aimed at attracting children to this sport. He said that he had been in this field for the last 26 years, making efforts to promote mountaineering and adventure tourism. He said that he was making efforts to train the local youth in the field of mountaineering. He said that his team comprising four young children took part in the expedition with a lot of enthusiasm and completed the task of reaching the basecamp in seven days. Sahib Alam said that the team of young mountaineers hoisted Pakistan’s flag at the base camp of Terich Mir. He said the government should promote adventure tourism by facilitating foreign tourists. Located in Chitral, Terich Mir is the highest peak of the Hindu Kush mountain range with an altitude of 7708 meters (25,289 ft) above sea level.
