Events arranged across KP to mark Defence Day

PESHAWAR: A number of events were arranged in Peshawar and elsewhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday to mark Defence Day and commemorate the sacrifices offered by the soldiers to protect the borders of the country.

Pakistan Markazi Muslim League members staged a rally outside the Peshawar Press Club.They were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans in support of the Pakistan Army. Slogans were chanted in favour of security forces.

The party provincial president Yawar Aftab said September 6 was a historic day as the country’s security forces defeated an enemy with the support of the countrymen in the 1965 war.Tehreek-e-Jawanan Pakistan’s minority wing staged a rally outside the Balahisar Fort. Aftab Khuram and others led the rally. The speakers praised the security forces role for the country’s defence and protection.

The Pakistan Army organized an exhibition of military equipment and air show inaugurated by Corps Commander of Peshawar, Lieutenant General Umar Ahmed Bukhari.Demonstrations were made, including the display of weapons used by the Pakistan Army Infantry, Engineers, Signals, Air Defense and Artillery.

Gunship Cobra, MI-1 and Mushak aircraft of Army Aviation conducted practical demonstrations.Apart from this, demonstrations of artillery fire, infantry assault, mines and fence clearance, anti-terrorist and mixed martial arts were also presented.

In addition to military and civil officials, many students from schools, colleges and universities, including women, attended the exhibition.SWABI: Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur paid rich tributes to Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed, Nishah-e-Haider, a recipient of the highest military award, when he visited his tomb on Defense Day.

He was accompanied by Asad Qaiser, former speaker of the National Assembly, MNA Shahram Khan Tarakai, Aqibullah Khan, KP Minister for Irrigation, Faisal Khan Tarakai and others.The chief minister placed a floral wreath on the grave of Karnal Sher Khan and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

The martyrs will always be remembered by the people because they laid down their lives for the motherland. “I have been here earlier. I am proud to come here again,” he said.A function was also arranged on the Defence Day at Cadet College Spinkai in South Waziristan. College Principal Brig Aslam Hayat said that it was an important day as the country’s forces defeated a stronger and larger enemy in the war in 1965.

PARACHINAR: Functions were held in the Kurram tribal district. Schoolchildren presented songs and skits at an event at the Sports Complex in Parachinar to pay tribute to the armed forces of Pakistan.

A good number of civil and military officers, students, tribal elders and government functionaries attended the event.The students delivered speeches highlighting the sacrifices of the security forces for the restoration of peace in the country.

Speaking at an event, army officers and parents of martyred soldiers recalled the sacrifices of the soldiers during the 1965 war.They said that conspiracies were being hatched to weaken Pakistan, but hoped the nation would stand united to thwart all such efforts.

MIRANSHAH: A ceremony was to mark the Defence Day of Pakistan.Special prayers were held at mosques for the integrity and solidary of the motherland.

The General Officer Commander Major-General Adil Iftikhar laid a floral wreath at the memorial of the martyrs. A number of students, local elders and civil and military officers attended the function.
