I was surprised to see loose electric wires in Jinnah Super Market, Islamabad recently. One would indeed expect IESCO to be alarmed, given how dangerous such loose wires can be particularly when it rains. Those who are familiar with our history before independence know how the British undertook field inspections regularly to understand and resolve administrative issues in their areas of responsibility.
Unfortunately, public officials often prefer to sit in their cozy offices ignoring the importance of inspections and field visits. Due weightage to field inspections should be the parameter of performance appraisals.
