The recent abduction of Professor Dr Riaz Ahmed from the University of Karachi was a deeply troubling incident that raised serious concerns about academic freedom and justice in Pakistan. Dr Ahmed was known for his outspoken criticism of corruption.
The Karachi University Teachers' Society’s call for a boycott and ‘black day’ in protest was a strong step. Although Dr Ahmed has now been released, the onus remains on our judiciary and law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.
