ISLAMABAD: An accountability court Monday extended the judicial remand of the PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to September 16 in the new Toshakhana reference case.
The former ruling couple appeared before Judge Nasir Javed along with the defence counsel. The court extended the remand after listening to the arguments presented by both the parties. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor was also present.
The new reference pertains to a jewelry set gifted to former first lady Bushra Bibi by the Saudi crown prince when Imran was the prime minister. Defence lawyer Salman Safdar argued that the new reference was similar to the previous one; therefore, two separate references could not be filed on the basis of the same accusation.
To this, the NAB prosecutor said the defence lawyer’s claim could only be proved after matching the particulars of both the references. He also requested the court to summon the judicial record of the old Toshakhana reference but the court rejected the plea. Later, the judge extended the judicial remand of the former ruling couple to September 16 and adjourned the hearing.
