Pensioners want ATMs functional during first week of every month

JHANG: Pensioners and government employees Monday urged the Prime Minister and the State Bank Governor direct banks to keep their ATMs fully functional during the first week of each month.

They alleged due to dysfunctional ATMs they suffered immense troubles. They said the SBP and government policies regarding the facilitation of force for senior citizens are required to be enforced by the banks in letter and spirit at the local level. However, the complaint redressal system of banks has been made unapproachable for them by shifting the same online.

They maintained the SBP allegedly has no monitoring system at local level.Some pensioners and low-paid employees told The News that they urgently needed salary and pension money to pay for medicine, grocery and other bills but are empty handed even although their own money was available in accounts. The bank staffers deal them a burden and treat as a low-level citizens of the country, they said.

When The News contacted the Faisalabad SBP Chief Manager, the response was conveyed as the boss was busy in meetings. DC ORDERS PROVISION OF FLOUR BAGS IN MARKETS: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Umair Monday directed the Assistant Commissioners (ACs) of all four tehsils and other Price-Controlling Magistrates to personally ensure the supply of commodities, including vegetables, fruit and flour bags in open markets.

The DC has directed the District Food Controller (DFC) to personally inspect the flour mills and ensure complete production of flour bags with nest quality in all open markets instead of relying on computer-typed reports of the subordinates. He also directed the price-controlling magistrates to keep their focus on the supply of all daily use items in all markets at fixed low rates as he (DC) will personally monitor the production and supply of flour, sugar, grocery vegetables, fruit, meat and other commodities to give relief to the common man. Moreover, the DC chaired another meeting held to review the progress of development projects. He directed the Highway and Building Departments XENs, Local Government Department Assistant Director and head of other departments concerned to speed up the completion of all ongoing schemes by observing the good quality of work.
