PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday reported the fourth positive case of mpox, Dr Irshad Ali Roghani, provincial director public health, said.
He said a 47-year passenger arrived at the Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar from abroad and was detected having symptoms during the screening process.
The patient was physically examined and shifted to the Police Services Hospital in Peshawar, where doctors took his samples and sent them to the public health reference laboratory in the Khyber Medical University (KMU).
According to Dr Roghani, the patient tested positive for mpox. He was isolated from other patients in hospital and provided healthcare services. The patient belongs to Peshawar.
According to officials of the provincial Health Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported four positive cases of mpox among people who had come from abroad. They said that two of them arrived from Saudi Arabia and two others from the United Arab Emirates.
According to officials, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has not reported any local positive case of mpox. Pakistan has reported four cases of mpox in 2024 and all of them belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
