Two injured in Quetta check-post blast

A car, two Rickshaws and many motorcycles were damaged and window panes of many nearby buildings and houses were smashed in impact of powerful blast

QUETTA: Two people were injured in an explosion near a check post of the Frontier Corps (FC) at Chaman Railway crossing gate in the provincial capital on Sunday.

Officials said that a powerful blast that rocked the vast area of Quetta city took place close to the check post of Frontier Corps near Chaman Railway crossing gate which is well guarded by the security personnel.

“It was a bomb blast which was planted at the back wall of the check post as it exploded with a big bang, resulting in injuries to a man and his son who were passing through the area when the explosion occurred,” a senior police officer said, adding that an improvised explosive device was used for the blast.

Police said that one and a half kg explosive was used in IED and planted with the wall of the check post. Police, officials of the CTD rushed to the site soon after receiving information about the blast which was heard in a vast area of the provincial capital.

The injured were immediately shifted to civil hospital as they were identified as Haji Ghulam Rasool and his son Muhammad Osama. “The condition of the injured is stable,” Dr Wasim Baig, spokesman for the hospital said.

“A wall of the check post was damaged in the blast.

However, the personnel of the Frontier Corps remained unheard in the blast,” police said, adding that the bomb disposal squad visited the blast site and collected evidence that shows that an IED was used with the timer to connect the blast.

Police and CTD were investigating the bomb blast using the CCTV cameras installed in the area and check post. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
