Karachi: In the wake of Arshad Nadeem’s historic gold medal at the Paris Olympics, Pakistan’s sports authorities are turning their attention towards nurturing talent in javelin throw.
The Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Yasir Pirzada, met with Yasir Sultan, Pakistan’s second-ranked javelin thrower, on Sunday, to discuss his future in the sport. The meeting was held in Lahore on the sidelines of Yasir’s training session.
Pirzada reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to fully support Yasir in his training and competitive endeavours. The DG also assured the athlete that he would be provided with a new javelin to better prepare for upcoming events.
Yasir, who has a personal best throw of 79.93 meters, is gearing up for the South Asian Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held in India next month. The javelin thrower is regarded as a strong medal contender for Pakistan in the event, having previously secured a bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championships and a silver medal at the Asian Throwing Championships. As he intensifies his preparations for the upcoming championship, hopes are high that Yasir Sultan will bring another medal home for Pakistan.
