Rich tribute paid to late IGP Gohar Zaman for his services

A profound tribute was paid to the late Gohar Zaman, former Sindh inspector general of police (IGP), in a memorial reference held at the Central Police Office in Karachi on Saturday.

The event, organised by IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon in collaboration with the Association of Former Inspectors General of Police (AFIP), Sindh Chapter, celebrated Zaman’s distinguished career and his enduring impact on effective policing.

The ceremony was attended by Gohar Zaman’s family, including his son Shahid Zaman, the president of the AFIP Sindh Chapter, Azhar Faruqi, and various retired IGPs and current officers of the provincial police.

The gathering began with a recitation of the Holy Quran, setting a solemn tone for the proceedings.

The deputy inspector general of police (DIGP) of telecommunication and transport delivered an insightful briefing on Gohar Zaman’s exceptional contributions to maintaining law and order. His tireless dedication to maintaining law and order in Sindh was widely acknowledged by all attendees.

IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon recalled starting his career in 1991, after Zaman’s retirement, and praised him as a figure of gentleness and sensitivity. He emphasized that while honour and disgrace are in the hands of Allah, Zaman’s legacy continues to benefit the police department, notably through his pivotal role in securing land for the Police Training College Saeedabad.

DIGP Telecommunication and Transport Sharjeel Kharal highlighted Gohar Zaman’s achievements as significant milestones in policing, underscoring his exemplary career as a model for current and future officers.

Sindh AFIP President Azhar Faruqi, along with former IGPs Saleem Wahidi and Niaz Ahmad Siddiqui, also shared reflections on Gohar Zaman’s service and contributions.

Shahid Zaman expressed gratitude to the Sindh IGP for organizing the event and honoured the occasion as a meaningful tribute to his father’s memory. The ceremony concluded with Gohar Zaman’s family participating via video link.
