LAHORE : In a simple yet impressive ceremony held recently in Lahore, two books, The Simple Art of Holistic Well-being and The Windfall of Happiness, authored by Khalid Jamshed - a former journalist and columnist - were informally launched.

These books, focused on self-help, self-growth, and self-improvement, mark the emergence of a new genre of literature dedicated entirely to human wellness, encompassing overall health and happiness. Based on extensive research, these books guide readers on how to live healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives even amidst chaotic conditions.

The subject of wellness, while perhaps not unique, is significant in its aim to educate the public on maintaining resilience in physical, mental, emotional, social, financial, and occupational aspects of life. In times overshadowed by gloom, depression, and anxiety, the idea of promoting wellness - or more specifically, happiness - might seem like a far-fetched concept. However, Khalid Jamshed simplifies this notion, suggesting that we must accept that "this too shall pass."

He emphasises that living mindfully - consciously and in the present moment - can help us navigate through negativity and darkness. Jamshed firmly believes that the pursuit of overall wellness and happiness can be transformed into a public movement, empowering people to find a fair amount of joy despite life’s challenges. He advocates for positive thinking, posing a simple question to those who have adopted a bleak outlook: “What choice do you have? You can either drown in gloom, depression, and unhappiness, or you can immerse yourself in positivity, hope, and anticipation. I, for one, will always side with those who believe in God’s greater plan, a growth mindset, and the brighter side of life.”

The Simple Art of Holistic Well-being, the first book, serves as a comprehensive guide that systematically and diagnostically examines personal fulfilment across eight crucial dimensions: physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, financial, environmental, intellectual, and occupational well-being.

The book encourages readers to embrace simplicity as a path to a harmonious and balanced life. Through practical insights and actionable strategies, it offers individuals the tools to enhance their overall well-being and achieve fulfilment in today’s competitive world.

The second book, The Windfall of Happiness, challenges prevailing myths about joy and explores simple truths and everyday strategies that can transform lives. Drawing from personal experiences, self-help principles, and the writings of renowned thinkers, Jamshed encourages readers to delve into their inner selves. He asserts that life is as simple as we make it and that, despite all odds, the equation remains straightforward.

By accepting our present circumstances and living mindfully, many of our worries can be alleviated. Through a unique self-talk format, the author conversationally engages readers, unravelling the concept of happiness with clarity and sincerity. By posing sixty-five thought-provoking questions and offering insightful answers, this book becomes a personal guide in the quest for a happier, more fulfilled life.

Quoting philosophers, psychologists, scientists, and modern self-help authors, The Windfall of Happiness provides a holistic perspective on happiness, making it a must-read for anyone seeking authentic and lasting joy. This book dares readers to look beyond illusions and embrace simplicity for a joyful existence.

Author Khalid Jamshed is a versatile professional with a diverse academic background. Holding a Master’s degree in English Literature from Forman Christian College University and an MBA in Finance, he has also pursued graduate studies in diet and nutrition, as well as Applied Psychology and mental health counseling. Certified by esteemed institutions such as Derby University, LUMS, and Harvard Health Publications, Khalid is a practicing nutritional psychologist and wellness counsellor.
