Margalla Hills restaurants: SC to take up review petitions next week

SC bench on June 11 had ordered closure of all restaurants including Monal, operating in the Margalla Hills National Park

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan will take up next week the review petitions filed against its judgment delivered on June 11, declaring all leases and allotments inside the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) contrary to provisions of the Islamabad Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) Ordinance 1979.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan will take up the review petitions of the Sunshine Heights (Pvt) Limited and the Capital View Point Restaurant, (La Montana), etc. on September 3 against its judgment of June 11, 2024. The bench on June 11 had ordered closure of all restaurants including Monal, operating in the Margalla Hills National Park, after granting three-week time to the management of these restaurants for shifting their business to some other areas with the ruling that the matter pertained to preservation of the park that belonged to the people of the country.
