16 test positive for dengue in a day

Rawalpindi:Confirmation of as many as 16 individuals positive for dengue fever from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in the last one day has shown that the number of patients being reported from this region of the country has started registering a sharp increase.

Data provided by the district health authority Rawalpindi reveals that in the last 24 hours, nine individuals have tested positive for dengue fever from Rawalpindi district while seven patients have been confirmed positive for the infection from Islamabad Capital Territory. The total number of patients so far reported from the twin cities has reached 121 on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the burden of dengue fever patients on the allied hospitals in town including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital has also started registering a significant increase. The three hospitals tested as many as 14 patients positive for the infection in the last 24 hours that has taken the number of admitted dengue fever patients to 30 of which 23 have already been confirmed positive for the infection.

Of 23 confirmed dengue fever patients undergoing treatment at the allied hospitals, 12 are residents of Rawalpindi district, 10 are from the federal capital and one from Attock. One of the admitted patients was in critical condition on Friday morning according to the DHA Rawalpindi. On Friday, 16 patients were undergoing treatment at HFH, six at BBH and eight at DHQ Hospital.

It is important that the number of patients being tested positive for dengue fever from the region has been on a continuous rise for the last five days and according to health experts, if the situation persists, a possible outbreak of the infection may hit the population within a week or so.
