Islamabad:Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Senator Rubina Khalid met with a delegation from Riphah International University (RIU) here on Friday to explore collaborative opportunities for providing market-oriented skill training to BISP beneficiaries and their families.
Senator Khalid highlighted the value of international certifications in areas such as hospitality, nursing, midwifery, and home care, noting their potential to enhance job prospects for beneficiaries.
The delegation said Riphah International University had already initiated several skill development programmes in partnership with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission. Senator Khalid also proposed offering internships to recent graduates in media and mass communication within BISP's media wing and suggested holding an inter-university graphic design competition to promote BISP’s mission.
She reiterated BISP’s commitment to women's empowerment, a cause championed by PPP leader and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, and called for the prompt finalisation of plans with Riphah University to implement those skill development programmes, which would also cover basic work ethics and hygiene.
