This letter refers to the news story ‘Nawaz, Maryam discuss cooperation in education, health, climate change with UK HC’ (August 19. 2024). One wonders in which capacity Nawaz Sharif is meeting with the UK HC to discuss the issues of Pakistan. It is time we stopped detouring from official rules of foreign engagements. While Nawaz is indeed the head of a political party, he is not holding any significant government office at the moment.
Pakistan is not a kingdom and, flawed though it may be, our democracy is still intact. Nawaz should not get involved in any national or provincial level government decisions and should leave them to the office holders instead.
