RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC), Rawalpindi Bench, has adjourned the hearing of the petition challenging the detention of Adiala jail deputy superintendent until September 10, following a request for more time by the Rawalpindi CPO.
During the proceedings, Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of detained officer’s family, remarking that everyone must fulfil responsibility, as everyone is ultimately accountable to Allah. Justice Rauf expressed concern over the increasing number of missing persons.
The petitioner, along with her son and her lawyer Advocate Iman Mazari, was present in the court. The court enquired whether there was any progress in the recovery of Muhammad Akram, the missing deputy superintendent. The CPO responded that efforts were ongoing to locate Akram but sought additional time to complete the recovery.
Advocate Mazari informed the court that earlier in the day, 25 individuals in uniform from various agencies had entered the government residence within the Adiala jail, where they conducted a search and harassed her client and her children. The court noted the seriousness of these allegations and ordered the CPO to ensure the safety of Akram’s family.
The CPO sought an additional 14 days to recover Muhammad Akram, a request that the court granted, adjourning the hearing until September 10. It should be noted that Maimona Riaz, the wife of Deputy Superintendent of Central Jail Adiala, had filed the petition and named the Punjab home secretary, defence secretary, superintendent jail, IGP and Sadar Baruni SHO as respondents.
