ISLAMABAD: Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) Chairman Allama Raghib Hussain Naeemi has disclosed that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa received over 400 threatening messages from a religious party after he declared a killing decree by the leader of that party in the Mubarak Sani case as unconstitutional and against Shariat.
Talking informally to newsmen here on Thursday, the CII chairman said extremism was on the rise in the country and laws were being violated. The prerogative to award punishment for blasphemous acts rests with the state. There is no concept of lynching in the law. There are four punishments for committing different acts of blasphemy and it is misunderstood that there is one extreme punishment for all blasphemous acts.
He said there was a death penalty for blaspheming the Holy Prophet (SAW) but desecration of the Holy Qur’an entailed life imprisonment. The punishment for violation of the Imtana-e-Qadianiat Ordinance is three years in prison while there is a law for seven years punishment in case of insulting other holy prophets (AS) and Sahabah-e-Karaam (RA). He regretted that people due to intolerance were not ready to listen to anybody in religious matters.
