MINGORA: A head-constable was martyred and a constable sustained injuries when a hand-grenade lobbed by militants into the Banrr Police Post exploded, police officials said on Thursday.
They said that militants hurled hand-grenades into the Police Post in Banrr locality in Mingora City at night. They said the hand-grenade exploded, leaving two cops injured.
The injured personnel were shifted to the Said Sharif Hospital where head-constable Rahmanullah succumbed to his injuries. Later, funeral prayer for the martyred head-constable was offered at the Police Lines in Mingora.
Officials of police and district administration attended the funeral prayer.
The body of the martyred cop was later taken to his native village in Madyan where he was laid to rest with state honours.
It may be mentioned that the residents of Swat and Lower Dir had recently staged a protest against the “rising” attacks on the police, and demanded arrest of the perpetrators.
Holding white flags and banners inscribed with “we want peace in Swat,” the residents of Ser Tiligram area of Charbagh tehsil had blocked the Malam Jabba Road and chanted slogans for peace.
The participants had vowed that they would not tolerate any further ‘experiments’ with the people of Swat as they had already experienced the devastating effects of militancy and the counterinsurgency efforts.
