The land of the rising bills

One of the primary reasons for the increase in electricity bills is the rising cost of energy production. The price of raw materials such as natural gas has been steadily increasing and maintaining aging infrastructure requires substantial investment. The increasing demand for electricity, driven by factors like population growth and the rising use of electronic devices, further strains our energy infrastructure and necessitates further investment.

To overcome the issue of rising electricity bills, it is essential to focus on energy efficiency, regulatory oversight, and support for vulnerable households. Encouraging the use of energy-efficient appliances and home improvements can reduce overall consumption. Governments and regulatory bodies should also ensure that any rate increases by utility companies are justified and not driven by excessive profit motives.

Electricity bills and taxes are breaking the backs of the ordinary people. The new budget passed in July has only exacerbated the woes of a people already fatigued by inflation. It is now not just difficult for many to pay their bills but impossible to do so. Although some political parties, like Jamaat-e-Islami, have held protests and sit-ins to pressure the government into giving the people some relief, it all appears to be in vain.

There is a dire need to resolve this problem. The use of solar and other cheap sources of energy seems to be a feasible solution and must be implemented. We have to realize the importance of what natural resources we have and try our best to use them wisely.
