NOWSHERA: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Najeeb-ur-Rahman on Wednesday directed the station house officers (SHOs) to ensure the registration of the first information reports (FIRs) as the police force was supposed to take action against the criminals to provide protection to the citizens.

He was talking to reporters after chairing a meeting at the police lines here.

Najeeb-ur-Rahman said eight incidents of terrorism took place in the Mardan Range over the last eight months.

He said that three terrorists were killed while one cop was martyred in these acts of subversion.

He said the perpetrators behind most of these attacks had been identified as the Counter-Terrorism Department was working on the cases.

The official acknowledged the presence of terrorists in the Mardan region.

However, he said the police would spare no effort to root out militancy.

He said the police had rendered unmatched sacrifices to maintain peace. He said the incidents of extortion for ransom had reduced to a large extent.

The official said the incidents of street crimes had increased in recent years.

He said the police were working with the Excise authorities to register the unregistered motorcycles to address the issue.

The RPO said the police were taking action against drug pushers and other anti-social elements.
