CHITRAL: The Chitral-Shandur Road was closed for heavy traffic after the artery developed a serious crack at Shader area in Reshun village due to continued river erosion, locals said on Wednesday.
Expressing concern over the development, the social figures have asked the government to take steps to save the road.
Talking to reporters here, Chiragh Din, who is also Kissan Counsellor in Village Council Reshun, said the water level in the river had risen and it was now a matter of a few days when the water would sweep away the road.
He said that the Upper Chital would be cut off from the rest of the country if the water swept away the road near Reshun village. He also appealed to the National Highways Authority and the federal minister for communication to look into the urgent matter, adding that the fast-moving water had swept away the electricity poles, disrupting the power supply in the area. He said the local authorities were silent over the situation as they were taking undue advantage of the good nature of the local population.
