PESHAWAR: The Board of Governors (BoG) of Medical and Teaching Institution (MTI) Mardan has said the appointments of a new Hospital Director and Medical Director were made by following a comprehensive and transparent selection process.

The BoG members termed the allegations leveled by some individuals as baseless and said misleading information was fed to the media about the selection process in the institution. They said the first time in the history of Mardan Medical Complex such important administrative selections had been made on merit and through a transparent selection process.

It was added that the positions, advertised under advertisement INF(P)1659/24 on July 13, 2024, drew significant interest. By the August 5, deadline, 30 applications were received for the Hospital Director role and 18 for the Medical Director position. To ensure a fair process, the BoG established a scrutiny committee during its meeting on July 13, formalized through Notification No. 32/BOG/MTI Mardan on July 19, 2024. The committee, chaired by Najeebur Rahman (BoG member) and including Prof Dr Ahmad Khan and Altaf Ahmad as members, reviewed all applications.

Following this review, 15 candidates were shortlisted for the hospital director position and eight for the medical director post, with additional classifications for provisionally eligible and ineligible applicants. A confidential selection committee re-verified the scrutiny report to maintain the integrity of the process. Candidates were evaluated based on their credentials and experience, with those scoring 50 percent or higher called for final interviews.

For the hospital director position, the shortlisted candidates included Dr Khalid Masud, Dr Altaf Hussain Qureshi, Col (retired) Dr Gulzar Ahmad Khan, Col (retired) Dr Hamid Saeedul Haq, Col (retired) Dr Mohammad Bakhtiar, Dr Abdul Jamil, and Dr Shafa Haider Sawal.

The shortlisted candidates for Medical Director were Dr Imad, Dr Mohammad Said, Dr Rehmanuddin, Dr Mohammad Tariq, Dr Mukhtiar Ali, and Dr Naeemul Haq. Final interviews were conducted on August 24 at the Administrative Block of Bacha Khan Medical College MTI Mardan.

The Selection Committee’s consolidated results were presented to the BoG, which unanimously approved the top candidates for the respective roles. The BoG hoped these appointments would enhance the quality of care and drive further advancements in patient services.

Prof Dr Mohammad Said is a senior faculty member of Bacha Khan Medical College (BKMC) and is associated with the Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) department of the MMC He is a Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons and is also the chief editor of the journal of BKMC.

Dr Col (retired) Gulzar Khan, appointed as Hospital Director, was associated with the Rahman Medical Institute (RMI) as director, and before that, he had served as Hospital Director of the Khalifa Gul Nawaz Medical Complex in Bannu.

Meanwhile, the BoG made some important decisions and decided on the vehicle and POL eligibility policy. “Only the Dean, Medical Director and Hospital Director are entitled to a car and POL. Also, the POL limit is reduced from 200 litres to 150 litres,” said an official of the hospital.
