MULTAN: Multan experienced heavy rain on Tuesday, disrupting daily life and inundating many roads in busy areas.
Pedestrians, vehicles and bikes were stranded in the rainwater. The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) reported that the torrential rain broke a 48-year-old record for Multan. The Chungi No-9 Disposal Station received 147mm of rainfall, surpassing the previous record of 134.5mm set in 1976.
Wasa Managing Director Khalid Raza Khan declared a rain emergency. Wasa teams were working to clear the drainage system and ensure smooth water flow. The commissioner Multan Division, deputy commissioner and DGMDA submitted a report on the ongoing operations.
The MD instructed all deputy directors to inspect the roads within their jurisdictions and remove manhole covers to prevent flooding. Deputy Commissioner Waseem Hamid Sindhu issued a red alert to all district departments and ordered them to take immediate drainage measures. The deputy commissioner visited various areas to assess the situation and directed expediting drainage efforts. Temporary camps were set up in different areas to assist citizens. On Tuesday, the deputy commissioner visited the city to review the storm-water drainage arrangements. He visited LMQ Road, Bosan Road, Kutchery Chowk, the Metro Route, and Chungi No- 9 Disposal Station. He instructed Wasa officials to speed up the drainage operations.
