This letter refers to the article ‘Power of the people’ (August 20, 2024) by Dr Sharmila Faruqi. The writer is absolutely correct that Pakistan has the potential to grow and grow fast if young people are given the priority they deserve. Pakistan is one of the luckiest countries as the majority of its people are young. It should immediately cash in on this invaluable resource. The older generations should hand over the reins to the young ones to steer the country out of the present crises and towards success.
The youth of Bangladesh did wonders and achieved the unexpected and broke out of the shackles of a mock democracy. Also, there is no doubt that, economically, Bangladesh moved in the right direction and became one of the strongest economic entities in this region while surpassing Pakistan. But, when you are unfair to your people, they will eventually throw you out. Pakistan can do better than this.
