LAHORE:Punjab University's Academic Staff Association (PU-ASA), in the wake of recently reported alleged fraudulent practices of some professors who allegedly bribed a fake officer seeking the position of VC, has voiced its profound concern over the alarming degradation of the vice chancellor's office.
PU-ASA President Dr Amjad Abbas Khan Magsi and Secretary Dr M Islam, in a press release on Monday, said that the office of the vice chancellor could not be handed over to the people with weak moral standards. "This role, historically entrusted to individuals of unquestionable virtue, wisdom and an unwavering commitment to truth, has tragically been reduced to a prize for those whose ambitions are steeped in political intrigue and ethical compromise," they said. The PU-ASA has urged the Punjab Chief Minister, Minister for Higher Education, and search committees to exercise caution in VC appointments, entrusting only those with proven track record of sound financial management, effective leadership with professional and ethical values. In continuation of the press conference held on August 22, 2024, ASA demands not only strong action but also an unwavering, thorough inquiry into all those implicated, including university professors, who have allegedly sought the vice chancellorship through bribery, manipulation or other unethical means.
