NA to amend ICT local govt law today

ICT Local Government Act, 2015 will be amended to extent that in Section 17(3)

ISLAMABAD: The government will get the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2024 passed by the National Assembly when the House meets on Monday evening.

Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi will lay the report of Standing Committee on Interior on the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and later will move the bill for passage by the House.

The ICT Local Government Act, 2015 will be amended to the extent that in Section 17(3), the words ‘People’s Representative Act, 1976’ will be substituted with the ‘Elections Act, 2017’.

It was required to replace the Elections Act, 2017 with People’s Representative Act, 1976 in order to issue the notification of reserved seats of the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI).

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced to conduct ICT local government elections on October 9 this year. The chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology will lay the report of the committee on the Establishment of Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal Bill, 2024 to amend the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996 and Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. The chairman of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence will lay the report of the committee on the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Bill, 2024. The chairman of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice will also lay the report on point of order regarding July 24, 2024 Supreme Court’s verdict in the Mubarak Sani case. Reports of Standing Committees on the Privatization Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Apostile Bill, 2024 will also be presented in the House.
