Obituary: Late Syed Mukarram Shah Gillani enjoyed respect for his services

PESHAWAR: Syed Mukarram Ali Shah Gillani, a noted spiritual figure who passed away recently, was respected by religious scholars, political leaders, and social activists alike for his contributions to the society.

He was born on April 11, 1955 in Peshawar and passed away on the 9th of this month.

His funeral prayers were offered outside historic Gunj Gate and he was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Peshawar.

His passing has left a void in the hearts of many who admired his services and dedication. His influence spanned across various sectors.

Those who knew Pir Syed Mukarram Ali Shah Gillani well described him as a symbol of piety, dedication, and leadership. From a young age, he seamlessly integrated his social and spiritual responsibilities, earning respect and admiration from all who crossed his path.

He received his early education in his birthplace. During his time at Edwardes College, Peshawar, he distinguished himself not only academically but also as the president of the student body, where his leadership and personality earned him acclaim.

Syed Mukarram Ali Shah Gillani served as the president of the student union in the History Department at the University of Peshawar.

He faced a personal loss early in life, with the passing of his mother during his youth, followed by the death of his father, Syed Munawar Shah Badshah, in 1990.

Despite these challenges, he stepped up to lead his family and manage their affairs, demonstrating resilience.

At just 21, he founded Mukarram Textile Industry, marking the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey.

His professional accomplishments were notable, including earning a gold medal from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and serving as the president of the Food Carriage and Transport Contractor Association.

His talents extended beyond academics and business; he was also a badminton player and served as the president of the Karate Association as well.

Those close to him recalled his deep and unwavering commitment to his religious duties.

Following his father’s passing, he was honored with the esteemed title of Gaddi Nasheen for three significant shrines: Hazrat Syed Hassan Badshah in Peshawar, and Hazrat Syed Sakhi Shah Muhammad Ghous in Lahore and Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ashabi in Sindh. His spiritual guidance earned him respect and admiration from followers.

Each year, he would commemorate the Urs (death anniversaries) of these revered religious figures with his followers, showcasing his spiritual devotion and dedication.

He participated in Lahore’s oldest Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) procession, which has been celebrated for nearly 90 years.

Devotees paid rich tribute to the late Pir Syed Mukarram Ali Shah Gillani, acknowledging his legacy of integrity and dedication. They said he would be remembered for the impact he made through his commitment and exemplary character.
