Twin cities gear up for Chehlum security with over 8,000 personnel deployed
Islamabad : Rigorous security measures have been planned to maintain law and order during the observance of Chehlum for Imam Hussain (AS) in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Over 3,000 security personnel will guard the Chehlum procession in Islamabad, scheduled today (Sunday) (19th Safar-ul-Muzaffar, 1446 Hijri). In Rawalpindi, more than 5,000 personnel will be deployed to protect the processions tomorrow (Monday) (20th Safar-ul-Muzaffar, 1446 Hijri).
The Rangers, constabularies, and police forces will collaborate to maintain peace during the Chehlum observance in both cities, according to officials responsible for ensuring security. A public relations officer stated that the Islamabad Police will implement fool-proof security arrangements for the Chehlum procession of Imam Hussain (AS). He added that, following special instructions from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, a comprehensive security plan has been developed, involving the deployment of over 3,000 police officers.
The plan received formal approval from IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi after a thorough review, and all divisions of the Islamabad Police have been directed to ensure complete coordination for the successful implementation of the plan. All relevant officers have been instructed to maintain close liaison with peace committees and procession organizers. The cooperation of organizers is crucial in facilitating collaboration with police and law enforcement officials during the procession.
Arrangements have been made to thoroughly check participants of the procession using metal detectors, while strict vigilance will be maintained to ensure that security measures are upheld by both the police and peace committees. Pakistan Rangers officials will also assist the Islamabad Police in ensuring comprehensive security arrangements. All Zonal SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs have been directed to ensure proper lighting along the procession routes.
The processions will adhere strictly to predetermined routes and timings. Police officers have been instructed to conduct effective patrolling, including the use of commando vehicles.
Ambulances and fire brigade vehicles will be stationed near the procession routes to handle any emergency situations. The Dolphin Squad has also been deployed to patrol along the designated routes, while all Zonal SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs will supervise the procession security. The organisers have appointed volunteers to conduct searches of both men and women. Meanwhile, police commandos have been stationed along the procession routes and will remain fully alert to prevent any untoward incidents.
DIG Islamabad Syed Ali Raza stated that the Islamabad Police will perform its duties with full responsibility and dedication, ensuring the protection of citizens' lives and property. He affirmed that the safety of citizens and the maintenance of law and order in the federal capital remain top priorities for the Islamabad Capital Police.
Sources indicated that sensitive areas, including the Diplomatic Enclave and Red Zone, will be separated from the rest of the metropolis by heavy police deployment. The Red Zone, particularly the Diplomatic Enclave, will be secured with a three-tier security arrangement. In Rawalpindi, police authorities have devised stringent security measures to counter any potential untoward situations.
